How to register a religious marriage, how to change the property regime, or if the wedding was abroad, how can I get a marriage certificate?

All these questions answer procedures you will have to do only after you get married Check out these 5 possible earrings.

    1. Register the religious marriage

After you get married in a church, what do you do, you may be wondering. If you only had a religious ceremony, you will still have to make an appointment at the Civil Registry to register your marriage and thus obtain legal validity.

This procedure must be carried out within eight consecutive days of the celebration, in a Civil Registry office, either in the same office where the declaration was made or in a different one.

There, the civil officer will register the act granted by the religious entity, in which the celebration of the religious marriage is accredited; at the same time, they will be asked to ratify the consent given before the minister of worship.

If the act is not registered within eight days, the religious marriage shall have no civil effect.

How to make an appointment? To do it online, just go to www.registrocivil.cl, click on "online services", "book an appointment", "start procedure", "marriage" and "manifestation/registration of religious ceremony".

If no date is available, then you will have to go in person to a Civil Registry office to request the procedure. The important thing is that, after the marriage, the next step is to validate the religious bond in the Civil Registry.

    2. Change the matrimonial property regime

What to do after the wedding? If at the celebration of the marriage they did not decide on the matrimonial property regime, it was understood that they opted for a marital partnership.

However, they may not even have taken the time to analyze it.

That is why, among the formalities after marriage, once the couple is informed, usually appears the request for change of the marital partnership, in which both spouses form a single estate.

The other two options are Separation of Property, in which each spouse manages his or her own property, before and after marriage, and Profit Sharing, in which each spouse manages his or her own property. But if they separate, the spouse who acquired more property must compensate the spouse who acquired less.

How to apply? The change of matrimonial property regime is made through a public deed. Both of you will have to sign the deed at a notary's office, which will then be taken to the Civil Registry in order to register the change.

    3. Validate marriage leave

When considering what to do after getting married in a civil ceremony, another step involves paid marriage leave.

Although they will have already made use of this benefit, which corresponds to five continuous working days, there is still one last step pending.

And it is that within thirty days after the celebration, they should present the respective marriage certificate issued by the Civil Registry to your employer .

It is worth remembering that this leave, which Chilean law grants to hired workers, applies on the day of the marriage, and on the days immediately before or after the celebration; in addition to the vacation period.

    4. Registering a marriage celebrated abroad

On the other hand, if you were married abroad, when you arrive in Chile you must register your marriage in order for it to be legally valid.

To do so, must have a marriage certificate issued by the authorities of the place where they were married; legalized if the country does not belong to the Hague Convention and apostilled if the country belongs to the Hague Convention.

In addition, if the original marriage certificate is in a language other than Spanish, an official translation of the certificate must be attached. If the translation comes from abroad, it must be legalized or apostilled, or it can also be requested from the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

With these documents, plus their valid identity cards, they should go to any office of the Civil Registry.

However, if one of the spouses is a foreigner, for any extra request it is advisable to go directly to the Civil Registry at Huérfanos 1570, Santiago, as this is where the Foreigners' Office operates.

    5. Redeem gifts and thank you

If you registered your bridal registry at a multi-store, then after the marriage you will have to redeem your gifts or cash, as the case may be.

The contract will establish the deadlines and the benefits they will be able to access, whether or not they reached a certain purchase goal.

But one last thing to do after you're married, it'll be to thank precisely the guests A very simple way, for example, is to send them thank you cards online.

Although you can order them from a supplier for a more professional result, it is also possible to make them yourself by customizing templates from the Internet. In any case, your family and friends will be very grateful for this detail.
