The happiness of a bride is not complete until she wears the precious jewel on her finger; a pledge of love and union as a couple for life.

Marriage would not be the same if it were not full of rites, customs and symbolism, one of the most important of which is the giving of the engagement ring.

If you're interested in learning more about the history of this iconic and valuable accessory, then take a look at the beautiful wedding bands of yesterday and today. You'll discover how much this piece of jewelry has changed over the last 100 years and you'll be able to identify your favorite style.

1910: Simple and discreet

We begin this journey back in time with a beautiful, elegant and classic round solitaire diamond ring, old European cut, set in a six prong setting. The yellow gold of this engagement ring is 14 karat.

1920: Artistic and sophisticated

The aerodynamic geometry of the Art Deco movement was also reflected in the jewelry, an inspiration that carried over to the bridal rings, as portrayed in the video with a round brilliant-cut diamond, which honors the traditional shapes of the time, as other small round diamonds placed on a perforated and openwork platinum mounting complete the piece.

1930: Luxurious and detailed

White gold was introduced in the late 1920's, becoming the most popular metal of the period, along with filigree mounting (or lace made of interwoven strands of gold or silver). The video shows a beautiful diamond ring, antique European cut, with filigree mounting and 18 carat white gold.

1940: Fine and distinguished

A little simpler than the previous one, the ring of the 40's maintains the supremacy of white gold and platinum among the favorite metals for the manufacture of engagement rings. Side diamonds encrusted on the edges of the ring also gain prominence, to give it an even more sophisticated touch.

1950: Large and ostentatious

This decade saw a shift towards the use of yellow and rose gold, with an increase in the scale of the jewellery. The register features a beautiful 14 carat European cut round diamond ring, with a strikingly thick setting and the visual contrast created by the yellow gold.

1960: Minimalist and subtle

In this decade there is an increased interest in fancy shaped diamonds, whether emerald, pear, marquise and heart shaped, among other types. The audiovisual record shows a beautiful emerald cut diamond set in platinum, the most coveted precious metal at that time. There is also a return to the solitaire diamond.

1970: Showy and bombastic

In this period, everything is turning towards gold rings with round or fancy shaped diamonds, complemented by channels of mounted stones that accompany these engagement rings. The video shows a yellow gold ring, with a marquise cut diamond and a channel of round brilliant cut diamonds. This is a large ring, for brides with personality.

1980: Fine and seductive

In the 1980's, the reign of the solitaire diamond remains strong, although now decorated with baguettes or gems on either side to give it more distinction. You can see in the video a nice round brilliant cut diamond flanked by rectangular baguettes set in platinum. And the effect is that these baguettes draw the eye even more towards the central stone.

1990: Eye-catching and bright

The radiant cut became the most requested by the bride and groom in those years, in diamonds that were generally accompanied by other side stones to obtain a special shape. A beautiful radiant cut diamond, flanked by others of triangular shape and mounted in 18 carat white gold, is the one that can be seen in the video-summary.

2000: Distinguished and jovial

With the arrival of a new century, fancy shaped princess cut diamonds became a favorite for future husbands. The video delights us with a princess cut diamond, enhanced in brilliance by more round brilliant cut diamonds set in a platinum and white gold ring band.

2010: Colourful and modern

Finally, coming to the present day, the Halo ring has become the preferred ring for engagement rings. It is a piece composed of a large solitaire diamond, which is accentuated by many smaller stones that are set in a circle or "halo", as its name suggests. On the other hand, in this decade there is an increasing demand for fancy colored diamonds. The registerdisplays a cushion-cut and fancy yellow one, set in a platinum halo surrounded by round brilliant diamonds.
